Coast Guard rescues 44 persons onboard a distressed motorbanca in Dinagat Island

Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Personnel Roxas rescues passengers and crew of “Danrev Express” in the vicinity waters between Poblacion Rizal, Basilisa, Province of Dinagat Islands and Danawan Island, Surigao del Norte.

Personnel of Coast Guard Sub-Station (CGSS) Roxas rescued thirty-eight (38) passengers and six (6) crew members from a submerged motorbanca “Danrev Express” at vicinity waters off Dinagat Island, Surigao del Norte yesterday, June 8.

A certain Carolina Echin appeared to CGSS Roxas, and reported that Mbca “Danrev Express” submerged at vicinity waters off Dinagat Islands between Poblacion Rizal, Basilisa, Province of Dinagat Islands and Danawan Island, Surigao del Norte.

Upon receiving the report, the team proceeded to the area to conduct Search and Rescue (SAR) operations. While underway, they sighted the distressed motorbanca and some passengers in the water. Immediately, the team conducted rescue operation and transferred the thirty-eight (38) passengers and six (6) crew members to other motor pump boats.

Investigation revealed that while underway from Poblacion Rizal, Basilisa, Province of Dinagat Islands bound for Surigao City, said motorbanca was accidentally struck by floating debris of wood which caused a hole at her starboard side bow and subsequently submerged. All of the passengers and crew of Mbca Danrev Express were successfully rescued and were brought to Barangay Poblacion Rizal, while others were brought to Barangay Roxas, and were sent home to their respective families in good physical condition.
