COTABATO CITY–Preparations are underway for the city’s 59th Araw ng Cotabato celebration this year, the city information office said.

Halima Satol-Ibrahim, city information office chief, said the nine-day festivity would start on June 12 to coincide with the country’s celebration of its 120th Independence Day and end on June 20, the city’s Charter Day.

“Arrangements are nearing completion as the city government and its partners finalize activities for the festivity,” Satol-Ibrahim said.

She said that currently, an Inaul Fabric Exhibit is being staged at the old city hall building-turned-museum displaying distinctive textiles that depict the city’s meaningful history and colorful tapestry.

Among the activities lined up are sports events, boat race, duathlon, cultural presentations and a cooking showdown. Eight gorgeous Cotabateñas will also vie for the highly-anticipated Mutya ng Cotabato tilt.

Satol-Ibrahim added that a sing and dance competition and a local artist workshop are also included in the activities to showcase homegrown talents.

“You can expect only a better and developing Cotabato City this year,” she said of the upcoming celebration. (Noel Punzalan/PNA)
