Ateneo, San Beda to be honored in awards night

MANILA — The champion teams of Ateneo Blue Eagles and San Beda Red Lions last year will be feted once more on Thursday night, June 21, during the Collegiate Basketball Awards.

The Blue Eagles and the Red Lions, who ruled the UAAP and the NCAA respectively last season, will be given special citations from the UAAP-NCAA Press Corps, the group of reporters covering the collegiate sports beats, in the awards night sponsored by Chooks-to-Go at The Bayleaf.

Ateneo went on a 13-game winning streak to open UAAP Season 80 before showing its grit in do-or-die playoff games to capture its ninth men’s basketball title.

San Beda, on the other hand, shocked everyone by sweeping Lyceum, which entered the NCAA men’s basketball finals with an 18-0 elimination round record, to win its 10th plum in 12 years.

Thirdy Ravena and Robert Bolick, the Finals MVP’s last year, are also expected to be honored along with the other top performing players from both leagues last season. ( Ivan Stewart Saldajeno /PNA)
