New drug personalities arrested in drug-cleared Pangasinan town

CALASIAO, Pangasinan  — The Calasiao police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Ilocos region have arrested three newly-identified drug personalities in Barangay Ambonao here on Sunday.

In an interview on Monday, Supt. Charlie Umayam, chief of Calasiao police, identified the suspects as Alexander Layog, 29, resident of Barangay Mabini, San Carlos City; Mary Anne Villanueva, 43, of Santa Ana in Pateros, Metro Manila; and Frederick Roxas, 34, of Santa Ana Kanan, also in Pateros.

Umayam disclosed that Layog and Villanueva were apprehended Sunday afternoon inside an inn here, where they sold one sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover policeman.

“We learned from them that they are just doing transaction in the town, because there are a lot of inns here. And we also learned that they got their contrabands from Manila,” Umayam said.

He added that the information provided by the two suspects led to the arrest of Roxas, who also sold one sachet of suspected “shabu” to an undercover police officer Sunday night.

Umayam admitted that it is a challenge for them to maintain the drug-cleared status of the town.

“They (illegal drug traders) can try to penetrate the town but they will fail because we will be able to arrest them, just like these three suspects,” Umayam said.
