Voter registration for May 2019 polls to resume in July

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday announced that voters registration for the May 13, 2019 national and local polls will resume next month.

In a statement, Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said the registration will be from July 2 to September 29.

Jimenez said the city/district/municipality offices of election officers (OEOs) will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Saturday, including holidays, to accept registrants.

Applications for new registration, transfer/transfer with reactivation, reactivation, change/correction of entry and inclusion/reinstatement of records in the list of voters, will be accepted during the more than two-month activity.

Jimenez said there will, however, be no registration in Marawi City.

“It is the mandate of the Commission to conduct regular registration in order to enfranchise those lost qualified voters nationwide, with the exception of Marawi City, Lanao del Sur, in light of the current situation in the area,” he added.

The poll body official said they will also conduct satellite registration during the period, wherein field officials will go to barangays (villages), public plazas, schools, and other public places to register voters.

“In such off-site registration, preference shall be given to members of the vulnerable sector such as indigenous peoples, senior citizens and pregnant women,” he added. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
