Justice for slain Ilonggo ‘tambay’ sought

ILOILO CITY – – Iloilo Provincial Board member Emmanuel Gallar will pass a resolution, seeking justice for an Ilonggo “tambay” (loiterer) who died inside the detention facility of the Novaliches Police Station (PS4) on June 18.

Gallar said that the resolution will particularly request the Philippine National Police (PNP) to conduct investigation and give justice to Genesis “Tisoy” Argoncillo, 25, a native of Barangay Bagongon, Concepcion, Iloilo.

The resolution is now being prepared, Gallar said in a media interview Monday, adding that he will pass it during the regular session of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial council) on Tuesday.

“We want to know why he died and who is the culprit so that appropriate charges will be filed and this victim from Concepcion will be given justice,” he said.

Meanwhile, Gallar said that the family of Argoncillo has not asked help from the provincial government but he will be giving them assistance from his personal pocket.

Argoncillo was apprehended by policemen late night of June 15 in Novaliches, Quezon City for alleged violation of local laws against “tambays.”

It has been reported that three witnesses have identified two detainees who beat Argoncillo inside the detention facility.

Earlier, four Quezon City policemen were relieved from their posts following the death of Argoncillo.(Cindy Ferrer/PNA)
