Gov’t ‘zeroing in’ on suspects in DavNor journo slay: SAP Go

MANILA — Special Assistant to the President Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go on Sunday said government authorities are already doing their best to bring justice over the death of Davao del Norte-based publisher and journalist Dennis Denora.

Confidential po ito pero ganito na lang (This is confidential, but let’s put it this way), they are already zeroing in on the suspects,” Go said in a chance interview in Tagum City, Davao del Norte.

Malacañang earlier assured that the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS) is already investigating the journalist’s death.

Denora, publisher of Trends and Times, a community paper in Davao del Norte, was killed by riding-in-tandem gunmen in an ambush in Panabo City last June 7.

“This is a new case, and this will be investigated by the task force on media killings headed by Undersecretary (Joel) Egco,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press briefing in Davao City last Thursday, June 28.

The PTFoMS headed by Egco was created by President Rodrigo R. Duterte in 2016 to address media killings and harassment.

Roque defended the efforts of the Duterte administration to investigate the series of killings that have targeted media practitioners, priests and prosecutors, saying the government’s initiatives are not merely a “lip service.” (PNA)
