Antique starts early preps for Binirayan Festival

SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique — The provincial government of Antique is making early preparations for the annual Binirayan Festival, which depicts the province’s rich culture and history.

In an interview on Monday, Antique Governor Rhodora Cadiao said they are making early preparations to ensure the success of the festival.

“This year we have separated the Christmas celebration from the Binirayan festival,” the governor said.

The Christmas celebration in the province will be from December 1 to 25 while the Binirayan Festival will be from December 26-30.

In previous years, the celebrations were held back-to-back for the entire December, launching the events with fireworks display.

“We intend to hold something enticing and innovative for this year’s Binirayan festival,” Cadiao said.

She said the Malay Ati competition and re-enactment of the historical landing of the Bornean datus to Malandog shores, which signaled the first arrival of Malay ancestors in the country, would still be featured during the festivities.

Cadiao said there are new presentations that revelers would be captivated to.

The governor further said that she is temporarily assisted by provincial government administrator Nery Duremdes, who will act as executive director for the festival.

“We are, however, really looking for an executive director because I will be very busy that time,” Cadiao added.

She said there is still no private entity that has partnered with the provincial government for the festival. (PNA)
