LAOAG CITY — The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Ilocos Norte has opened its doors to teachers who want to level up their skills in the English language.
Marina Giron, Human Resource Development Specialist of the Division Office of Ilocos Norte, said Wednesday that from May 12 to July 1, the first batch of teachers from the Schools Division of the province underwent a 100-hour Basic English Language Skills training at the 2nd floor of the TESDA Provincial Office here.
Twenty-five mentors comprised the first batch of trainees, she noted.
“For eight consecutive weekends, the teachers learned basic pronunciation and call centering skills through various activities given by their trainer, Honeylynn Inocencio,” said Guiron.
She added two more batches of teachers from the province will undergo similar training with TESDA under the agency’s Training For Work Scholarship Program.
The TESDA will also provide scholarship for the language proficiency exam after they have completed their training.
In an earlier memorandum addressed to all TESDA regional directors and executive director of the National Institute for Technical Education and Skills Development (NITESD) and National/Regional Language Skills Institutes (N/RLSIs), TESDA Director General Secretary Guiling “Gene” Mamondiong ordered the revival of the Language Skills Institutes of the agency.
The institutes shall offer language and culture programs based on the most frequented countries of destination of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in their areas, as well as countries with existing “government-to-government” agreement with the Philippines.
Mamondiong said foreign language training and culture programs are essential for students and job-ready workers to enhance their competitiveness in addition to the qualifications they already possess for better opportunities here and abroad.
TESDA is also hiring teachers and trainers for Arabic, Korean, English, Mandarin Chinese, German, Mandarin, Taiwanese, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and Bahasa Indonesia. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
