ZAMBOANGA CITY–The Land Transportation Office in Region 9 (LTO-9) on Thursday released 1,212 new motor vehicle plates for this region.

Lawyer Aminola Abaton, LTO-Region 9 director, led the release of the new plates at the agency’s office in Zamboecozone to several car dealers.

Abaton said the new vehicle plates were for the July 2016 backlog of his office. The plates arrived from Manila on June 19.

Abaton said car owners can claim their new plates from the LTO-Zamboecozone or through their car dealers. He said the new vehicle German-made plate has Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), which stores the data of the vehicle.

The new plate numbers start with letter J, which is the prefix for Region 9. It will be followed by two other letters with four-digit numbers.

Abaton said they are targeting to issue new plates to all four-wheel motor vehicles in the region before the end of this year.

He disclosed that they still have a backlog of 25,000 plate numbers here in the region. (R. G. Antonet Go/PNA)
