Water supply in 12 Cebu City public schools safe

CEBU CITY — Water supply in 12 Cebu City public schools have been declared safe, said a Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) official on Thursday.

Charmaine Rodriguez-Kara, MCWD Community Relations and External Affairs manager, said in a press release the water samples taken from the 12 schools passed the quality test conducted by their office during the opening of the school year.

Kara said MCWD carried out the free water testing to determine if the schools’ pipelines, containers, tanks, and faucets are free from coliform bacteria and to check the presence of chlorine and the water’s turbidity.

The MCWD conducts free water testing in Cebu City public schools every year in time for Brigada Eskwela.

The 12 schools are Abellana National School, Cebu City Central School, Don Vicente Rama Elementary School, and the elementary schools in Barangays Tejero, Punta Princesa, Tisa, Labangon, Talamban, Lahug, Pardo, Guadalupe, and Banilad.

These schools have been chosen for having the biggest population of students, Kara said.

However, other schools can also request for testing to ensure that their water supply — either from MCWD or their private wells – is safe.

She also advised schools to regularly check their pipelines for leaks and clean their cisterns and storage tanks to avoid water contamination. (Luel Galarpe/PNA)
