EPD starts preps for July 23 SONA duties

MANILA — The Eastern Police District (EPD) on Friday began holding a five-day seminar in preparation for President Rodrigo Duterte’s 3rd State of the Nation Address (SONA) on July 23.

The EPD Mobile Force Battalion conducted the Civil Disturbance Management Operations Seminar (CDMOS), which runs until July 18.

The seminar is in preparation for the deployment of the civil disturbance management (CDM) contingents for the SONA, which coincides with the 3rd Regular Session of the 17th Congress at the House of Representatives’ Session Hall in Quezon City.

The EPD, under Senior Supt. Bernabe Balba, said the seminar is meant to refresh the skills and knowledge of the police personnel in conducting CDM operations in adherence to the Philippine National Police’s operational procedures.

The training course contains lecture and practical exercises that would enhance or update their capabilities, readiness and alertness in responding to CDM operations and in dealing with protesters who annually troop to the SONA venue.

The National Capital Region Police Office earlier said it will field 6,000 police personnel and will coordinate with the Commission on Human Rights to secure the SONA venue. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
