Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan vie for ‘Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya’

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — The Bagayas family of Paoay Ilocos Norte and Ramos family of Urbiztondo Pangasinan, both with five members, are the top two provincial winners of the Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya 2018 in Region 1.

Jaesem Ryan Gaces, Pantawid Pamilya information officer, in an interview Friday, said the two families topped the provincial desk validation held on June 18 to 29.

“After the desk validation, they were again validated by the Regional Field Validators from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), while the representative from civil society or non-government organizations, media and other partners visited them, still part of the validation,” Gaces said.

He disclosed that the two families show strong family ties and harmonious relationship as they uphold Filipino values despite the challenges brought by poverty. They also practice and promote healthy living and take care of the environment. Moreover, they actively participate in the activities of their community, inspire others and strive to improve their living condition amidst difficult situation.

Gaces further said that the regional winner, to represent Region 1 in the national category, must possess: character, including  truthfulness and sincerity in words, thought and actions; expressiveness or the ability not only to express but also to convey right messages and active listening.

The family members should also have the leadership with the humility to be a team player and accept weaknesses, as well as insights or the ability to define Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya with keen foresight to plan in advance and the desire for consistency in actions and words.

The Regional Validation and Regional Field Validation were conducted from July 16 to 20, said Gaces.

He added that the winner in the Huwarang Pantawid Pamilya will serve as ambassadors of Pantawid Pamilya.

“They will be resource persons in activities where they can share their knowledge and experience and also help in advocacy efforts of Pantawid Pamilya,” he said.

The awarding of provincial and regional winners will be on August 14 here.

“The winner family-beneficiary will receive PHP20,000 cash, plaque and certificate,” Gaces said. (Hilda Austria/PNA)
