Families affected by monsoon rains now at 203K

MANILA — Adverse weather conditions caused by the southwest monsoon enhanced by tropical cyclones “Henry”, “Inday” and now “Josie” has now affected 203,035 families or 914,353 persons residing in 753 barangays located in Regions 1, 3, 4A (Calabarzon) 4B (Mimaropa), 6, Cordillera Administrative Region and the National Capital Region (NCR), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its 6 a.m. Monday update.

Of these, 5,430 families or 23,383 persons are now being aided in 135 evacuation centers while 84,774 or equivalent to 356,222 individuals are being helped outside.

NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said they already confirmed the deaths of four persons, two missing and one injured in Regions 6, 4A, CAR and the NCR.

Also, the inclement weather has also affected 62 road sections and five bridges in Regions 1, 3, 6, and CAR.

Flooding were also reported in 374 areas in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 4B, CAR and the NCR, of which floodwaters in 93 localities have subsided.

Damage to agriculture and infrastructure has amounted to PHP381,601,517.68 and were reported in Regions 1, 2, 3, 4A, 4B, 6, and the CAR.

Damaged houses amounted to 173, 16 totally and 157 partially, in Regions 1,3, 6, and CAR. Jalad added that the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, local government units have so far provided PHP20,284,930.18 worth of relief aid to affected families in Regions 1, 3, 4A, 6, NCR and CAR. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
