Antique PWDs assured of gov’t support

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — The Antique provincial government has guaranteed support to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with the culmination of the 40th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week celebration.

Antique Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao on Tuesday said that she is giving priority to the vulnerable sector, such as the PWDs, as her administration is for human development.

“Every year during your NDPR Week celebration, you could hear the assurance of the previous political leaders that they will support your programs but then it seemed nothing has happened,” the governor said in the culmination ceremony at the Binirayan Gym San Jose De Buenavista.

She said that as governor of the province, she is really doing her best to provide the request of the PWDs through the Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO), which is under the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.

Also, Vice Governor Edgar Denosta said that the provincial board has now approved the Provincial Livelihood Promotion Council chaired by the governor and him as vice chair that would provide livelihood to the vulnerable sectors giving priority to the PWDs.

“We know that you PWDs have the talents and abilities which normal persons do not possess, so we believe that if given the support you could overcome your barriers and make a successful livelihood,” he said.

Board Member Fernando Corvera, in his message, also urged the PWDs to visit their municipal social welfare and development offices so they could be registered and be able to avail of the livelihood assistance from the province.

Registered PWDs could also avail of their needed assistive devices such as hearing aid, cane and wheelchair, because of the PHP1.3-million supplemental budget approved by the provincial board. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
