PRO-11 to roll out drive vs. riding-in-tandem criminals

DAVAO CITY – The Police Regional Office (PRO)-11 will roll out its “clean rider” campaign, an anti-crime program aimed at thwarting motorcyle-riding criminals.

Police Chief Insp. Milgrace Driz, PRO-11 spokesperson, on Wednesday said the campaign aims to address killings and prevent carnapping cases perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects.

Driz said Chief Supt. Manuel Gaerlan, the PRO-11 Director, will lead the launching in Tagum City, where most of the crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects remain unsolved.

Driz said there are still 13 criminal cases involving motorcycle-riding suspects that are being handled by Special Investigation Task Groups (SITGs), mostly in Davao del Norte.

She said the campaign is a nationwide initiative of the Philippine National Police (PNP), in collaboration with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Highway Patrol Group (HPG), in which stickers with security features are issued to motorcycle drivers. One sticker will be put on the motorcycle unit and another on the driver’s license of the owner.

Driz said the stickers will inform authorities whether the driver owns the motorcycle, based on the similarity of the stickers on the unit and on the license itself. Drivers will be questioned if both stickers don’t match, she added.

“Ang dili ma-validate, meaning carnap siya. Dako ni siya ug tabang sa securidad sa motorcycle owners (Those that will not be validated means these are carnapped units. This is a big help to the security of motorcycle owners),” she explained.

Driz said there are 269,063 stickers assigned to Davao City and that motorcycle drivers may obtain their stickers from the nearest police station. To avail of the sticker, one must bring the OR/CR of the motorcycle, driver’s license, and the two valid identification cards.

“We encourage everybody to join the launching. We really prepared for this,” Driz said. (Lilian C. Mellejor/PNA)
