NFA urges public to report illegal activities

ILOILO CITY — The National Food Authority’s (NFA) office in Western Visayas is urging the public to make use of the “Kontra Abuso” hotlines in reporting possible illegal activities so the office could undertake appropriate action.

These illegal activities include the diversion of NFA rice and mixing them with commercial rice to be sold at a higher price.

Angel G. Imperial Jr., NFA regional director for Western Visayas, acknowledged on Thursday that the agency cannot do it alone, which was why he is asking the support of various sectors.

He warned NFA rice retailers that their accreditation is just a privilege and should they find probable cause, the authorities can “immediately suspend their allocation.”

“We really mean business in curbing corruption,” he said.

He added that there have been reports that NFA rice are mixed with commercial rice but so far no one has come out to stand as witness.

“All sectors of the society should report to us. Our every office has been advised to have ‘Kontra Abuso’ hotline numbers,” he said. The hotline is open 24/7.

The Kontra Abuso number are 0927 8719921 for the central office and 0905 4391235 at the regional level.

Complainants may also inform the NFA regional director through his number 0917 584 86664. (Perla Lena/PNA)
