Bomb blast injures trike driver, passenger in Antipolo City

CAMP GEN. VICENTE LIM, Calamba City – A suspected improvised explosive device (IED) exploded shortly before noon Tuesday along the roadside in Calumpang, Barangay San Jose in Antipolo City, damaging a tricycle and injuring its driver and passenger.

Police Supt. Chitadel Gaoiran, Police Regional Office (PRO4A)-Calabarzon regional public information office chief said the Rizal provincial tactical operation center (PTOC) reported that the explosion happened at a time when two military trucks were passing in the area.

Gaoiran said the two military vehicles were traversing the road around 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, and as they overtook a tricycle, the explosion occurred.

The blast damaged the tricycle and injured the 38 year-old tricycle driver identified as Jaime Cabanero, a resident of Sitio Paenaan, Barangay San Jose in Antipolo City; and his passenger, Ellaiza Acula, 23, a resident of the same barangay.

The blast victims were rushed to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries and are declared in stable condition.

Authorities are now conducting an investigation into the blast. (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
