DOE brings ‘E-Power Mo’ drive to Tacloban

TACLOBAN CITY— The Department of Energy (DOE) brought its “E-Power Mo” campaign to the region’s biggest secondary school to raise awareness among students on safety and energy conservation.

About 500 Grade 10 students of the Leyte National High School gathered on Tuesday at the campus’ gymnasium for the launching of the campaign, a partnership of the energy department and Philippine Information Agency (PIA).

“If students are aware, they can help apply energy tips in their homes. We have been encouraging science students to participate to spark innovation of energy projects in the future,” said Rey Maleza, DOE Visayas energy industry management division chief.

“We need the help of power consumers to effectively implement our programs. No matter how much effort we put on a program, if people will still patronize illegal products in the industry, we can’t do anything,” Maleza said.

“E-Power Mo” aims to raise awareness on energy roadmap and policies designed to empower the consumers.

These policies include developing and utilizing the energy resources available to Filipinos for wealth creation and global competition; undertaking safety and savings measures through energy efficiency; securing the delivery of quality, reliable and affordable energy services; and empowering consumers through a wide range of options in utilizing conventional, renewable and alternative energy sources.

The DOE said it will aggressively implement this strategic energy information, education and communication campaign so that ordinary Filipinos would be encouraged to use energy responsibly and would be partners in advancing the country’s economic growth. (Sarwell Meniano/PNA)
