1.5K motorcycle drivers join ‘Clean Rider’ launch in NegOcc

BACOLOD CITY — A total of 1,543 motorcycle drivers participated in the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) “Campaign Plan: Clean Rider” that was launched in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, on Wednesday morning.

The launch was held simultaneously in the cities of Cadiz, Bago, and Kabankalan – led by the Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office – and another one, led by the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) here.

In Negros Occidental, a total of 800 motorcycle riders took part in the simultaneous events.

In Cadiz, there were 350 rider-participants from the province’s First and Second Districts; Bago, 150 riders from the Third and Fourth Districts; and Kabankalan, 300 riders from the Fifth and Sixth Districts.

The participants signed the Oath of Commitment and Support on Campaign Clean Rider.

Chief Insp. Sherlock Gabana, BCPO public information officer, said 608 licensed drivers with road-worthy or registered motorcycles were issued “Clean Rider” stickers.

They were part of the 743 motorcycle riders, who registered during the launch. The 135 others others who joined still have incomplete vehicle registration documents.

“They have to process their documents first and once they complete it, they can submit their papers to their respective police stations to register,” Gabana said.

He added that the city police obtained 700 stickers from the PNP national headquarters, which they can issue for free.

Gabana said the “Clean Rider” campaign primarily aims to address crimes perpetrated by motorcycle-riding suspects.

Motorcycles bearing the “Clean Rider” stickers have undergone inspection and have been properly registered in the province, city or municipality of the rider’s residence.

Stolen motorcycles with “Clean Rider” stickers can be easily intercepted and referred to the owners since the latter’s personal and vehicle details are included in the police database.

“The ‘Clean Rider’ sticker indicates that as a motorcycle rider, you are a law-abiding citizen,” Gabana said. (Nanette Guadalquiver/PNA)
