Military beefs up visibility patrols in wake of Basilan blast

MANILA — The military’s Joint Task Force – National Capital Region (JTF-NCR) has beefed up its visibility patrols to secure Metro Manila from possible spillover of the Basilan blast that killed 10 people and wounded seven others last July 31.

“We are always on alert and vigilant (and) we are conducting preventive measures,” JTF-NCR head Brig. Gen. Abraham Claro Casis told reporters on Thursday.

The patrols are meant to ensure the safety of people in the NCR, he added.

Casis said they are still to receive reports that some groups are planning to conduct similar attacks in Metro Manila.

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) was placed on high alert Thursday as a result of the Basilan incident, which means the deployment of additional police patrols and beefing up of intelligence-gathering activities to deter possible attacks. (Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
