MANILA — The southwest monsoon will continue to prevail in major parts of the country on Saturday, the weather bureau said Friday.
In a weather forecast, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Samuel Duran said the “southwest monsoon continues to affect southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.”
According to PAGASA’s 4 p.m. weather bulletin, monsoon rains will prevail over Palawan, Occidental Mindoro, western Visayas, Zamboanga peninsula and the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) with cloudy skies and thunderstorms in the next 24 hours. The weather bureau warned of possible flooding and landslides caused by scattered rains or thunderstorms in these areas.
Metro Manila, Marinduque, Calabarzon, Bicol and the rest of Visayas and Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rains or thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.
PAGASA similarly warned of possible flooding and landslides due to moderate to occasionally heavy rains or thunderstorms in these areas.
Northern and central Luzon will also have partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers caused by local thunderstorms. The bureau cautioned against possible flooding and landslides due to scattered rains or thunderstorms in these areas.
Duran said the bureau is also monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), which was last spotted 1,620 km. east of Aparri, Cagayan. PAGASA earlier said the LPA will not enter the PAR.
Moderate to occasionally strong seaboards are also forecast in the western sections of central Luzon, southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Other areas will have slight to moderate coastal waters.
The weather bureau did not issue any gale warning in any part of the country, adding that fisherfolk and those with small boats should take precaution when heading out to sea.
PAGASA sees a temperature range of 15 degrees to 34 degrees Celsius until Tuesday.
