DAVAO CITY — The Regional Integrated Agricultural Research Centers (RIARCs) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) is pushing for a stronger network of regional and provincial collaborators to ensure the harmonization of its research, development and extension undertakings.
DA’s move came after the creation of the Regional Research and Development, Extension Network (RRDEN) for agri-fisheries in each region, which will set the new modality in agenda setting, planning and formulation of RD&E in agri and fisheries sectors.
During the RRDEN revitalization meeting here on Friday, Dr. Angelina Pancho, the Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulations, said that DA has a mandate to concentrate in research network, and through RRDEN the “one system, one program approach” will now be implemented.
“With its revitalization, R and D national issues like lack of budget and technical people will now be addressed,” Pancho added.
The RRDEN team will be composed of the Regional Advisory Council and Regional Technical Working Group from DA and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources 11, DA bureaus and attached agencies, the academe, provincial/LGU research team and private institutions.
In support of the creation of the research team, Digna Sandoval, OIC-Assistant Director and Head of Institutional Development Division (IDD) of DA-BAR, said a grant of PHP3 million was allotted for the construction of the RRDEN office.
Sandoval said the office will be established at the Davao Region Central Experimental Station (DARCES) in Barangay Manambulan, Toril District, this city, and will serve as a convergence point and will be made accessible to the members of the network that will need its services.
As the lead agency, DA and BFAR will be the overall manager responsible for the maintenance, operation and optimum utilization of the RRDEN office.
Sandoval said the research results and on-going activities will be compiled in one venue, which will easily be utilized by RRDEN stakeholders and other interested clientele.
“BAR ensures that research and development projects and relevant activities are properly prioritized for funding support,” Sandoval said.
She said that the people, who will benefit from the RRDEN center are from the academe, provincial/LGU, non-government organizations, farmers and fisherfolk associations and clienteles that need research-related concerns. (Cherry Mae D. Palicte/PNA)
