Village polls period in Marawi city starts Friday: Comelec

MANILA — The election period for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to be held on Sept. 22 in Marawi City will start on Friday.

According to the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 10412, the election period for the polls in the war-torn city will be from August 17 to September 29.

This also means that the gun ban will also be in effect in the city for six weeks.

“The Gun Ban runs for the entire Election Period, and covers Marawi City only,” it added.

The poll body added that alteration of precincts or establishment of new precincts; use of security personnel or bodyguards by candidates; transfer of officers and employees in the civil service; and suspension of any elective local officer, are also prohibited during the election period.

The Comelec has set the village and youth polls in Marawi City next month, over four months after the BSKE were held in the country last May 14.

Last year, the capital city of Lanao del Sur province was the battleground of the five-month conflict between government troops and the Islamic State-inspired Maute terror group. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
