‘Habagat’ rains damage P63-M worth of crops in Ilocos Norte

LAOAG CITY — Heavy rains brought about by the southwest monsoon left around PHP63 million worth of damage in agriculture, the Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Council reported Monday.

Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management officer Marcell Tabije said most of the damages in agriculture account for rice and high value commercial crops such as fruits and vegetables.

The southwest monsoon which was enhanced by tropical cyclones has been dumping heavy rains in parts of Luzon over the past few days.

As of posting, the weather bureau said coastal water conditions continue to be moderate to occasionally strong in Luzon.

Tabije urged residents to be vigilant and prepare for any eventuality. (Leilanie Adriano/PNA)
