LTO launches online appointment system in Cordillera

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — To fast-track the renewal of driver’s licenses and prevent long queues at motor vehicle registration, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) in Cordillera has launched its online appointment and scheduling system, initially in Baguio City and Benguet province.

The personal appointment and scheduling system, also known as the “online pass” and motor vehicle (MV) plate backlog inquiry system, is now operational at the LTO district office in this capital town and in Baguio City.

The Cordillera region is the ninth area to be provided with this kind of system since the LTO launched it in June this year.

Others were the National Capitol Region (NCR) and Regions 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 11.

Philip Perez, Cordillera Operations Officer of STRADCOM, the information technology (IT) provider of LTO, said on Monday the system would allow the public to conveniently and securely set an appointment for renewal of motor vehicle and driver’s license and also for inquiring about un-issued license plates.

Perez explained the steps under the new system. First, a client must have access to internet and log-in to the LTO website; Key-in driver’s license (DL) and/or motor vehicle (MV) details; Pick the preferred LTO site; Then, set date and time of appointment. Confirmation of appointment is done through e-mail.

Perez, however, clarified that the online appointment system only caters to the plain renewal of driver’s license and vehicle registration, not to new or first-time applicants.

Renewal with penalties and other issues are not covered by the new online system. These have to go through the old system.

Arsenio Bagtang, LTO Benguet chief, said a special lane would be provided to accommodate clients who have availed of the online appointment.

Robert Allan Santiago, Officer-in-charge of the Department of Transportation (DOTr)-Cordillera, said the new system will facilitate the faster renewal of driver’s license and registration of vehicles. (Primo Agatep/PNA)
