DAVAO CITY – Some 250 chefs and florists from all over Mindanao will vie for the prestigious culinary competition in the two-day 2018 Davao Culinary Cup at SM Lanang Premier here.

The Davao Culinary Cup, which opened on Thursday, August 23, features culinary artistry, creativity, and passion, said Chef Choi Llido of Goodfood.

The participants, Llido said, come from culinary and hotel and restaurant management schools, hotels, hotels, restaurant establishment and food and beverage industries. They will showcase their skills and talents in cooking, baking, and floral arrangement.

Llido said the participants will vie for the opportunity to take part in the Philippine Culinary Cup competition or as scholars of LTB (Les Toques Blanches) Chefs Association Philippines. An opportunity also awaits them to compete in Singapore

One of the event’s newest competition is dubbed “Colors of Kadayawan,” a floral arrangement competition on Table Centerpiece and Buffet Arrangement. Participants will use the products found in Davao City. There is also the fantasy desserts using only the fruits found in Davao.

Llido hoped the event would propel Mindanao’s local dishes into the mainstream culinary world.

The holding of the Davao Culinary Cup is also simultaneous with the World Food Expo (WOFEX) at the SMX Convention Center. WOFEX is the region’s largest annual food and beverage show. It is one of the most comprehensive food and beverage shows in the country, showcasing food equipment, processed food, ingredients, packaging and other industry-related items. (Lilian C Mellejor/PNA)
