SAN CARLOS CITY, Pangasinan—A total of 136 gun owners have renewed or applied for their License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) during the caravan, led by the Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU) of Police Regional Office 1 (Ilocos), at the Arenas-Resuello Gym here on Wednesday.

“It is like requiring a driver’s license. It (LTOPF) is mandated by the law before one can own a gun or even ammunitions,” said Supt. Christopher Acop in an interview Wednesday afternoon.

Acop clarified that LTOPF is different from the firearms registration.

“Before, these two are in one license, but these are now different licenses, LTOPF for the persons owning or possessing the guns while firearms registration is for the guns owned or possessed by the gun owner or holder,” he added.

LTOPF is valid for two years while the firearms registration is for four years, Acop further said.

He urged those who have not availed of the caravan to renew or apply via online registration. However, their neuropsychiatric test and drug test will be taken at the RCSU’s office in La Union, Acop said.

The LTOPF caravan offered neuropsychiatric test and drug test, enabling the participants to save money and effort, he added. (Hilda Austria/PNA)
