No special treatment for Trillanes upon detention: DND

MANILA — There will be no special treatment for Senator Antonio Trillanes IV once he is arrested and detained at the AFP Custodial Center in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.

This was disclosed by Department of National Defense (DND) spokesperson Arsenio Andolong in an interview with reporters Wednesday.

“I was told he will not be given special treatment although I must add na (that) decent naman (yung) facilities befitting an officer and a gentleman,” he added.

Also, Andolong clarified that the AFP is not being politicized as the institution is subscribed to the concept of the chain of command.

These claims surfaced after the AFP was ordered to arrest Trillanes following the voiding of his amnesty due to President Rodrigo Duterte’s Proclamation 572.

“We’ve always subscribed to the concept of following the chain of command. I think the AFP is the least politicized org. In fact it is an apolotical organization. But the fact is that they also follow a chain of command and the Commander-in-Chief is the President. So dunnag-emanate lahat ng actions ng AFP (All actions of the AFP emanated there). In terms of that, if you’re asking us kung may (if there is a) motive ang (for the) DND at AFP to purposefully put Sen. Trillanes in jail just for the sake of politics, I don’t think that’s the case. We are following procedure. We are following the command structure and we have processes that we follow,” he added.

Based on Proclamation 572, which was signed by the President last Aug. 31, Trillanes has no pending application for amnesty granted to all active and former personnel of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and supporters who joined the July 27, 2003 Oakwood Mutiny, the February 2006 Marines stand-off and the Nov. 29, 2007 Manila Peninsula incident.

This in effect voided the amnesty extended to him by former president Benigno S. Aquino III through Proclamation 75 issued in November 2010. ( Priam Nepomuceno/PNA)
