PH to battle Iran sans Slaughter

MANILA — Coach Yeng Guiao will parade a big man-laden Philippine roster to match up with Iran’s size in their FIBA World Cup Qualifiers match in Tehran on Thursday night.

On Wednesday, Guiao named Raymond Almazan, Beau Belga, Poy Erram, Ian Sangalang, Chris Standhardinger, and Asi Taulava into his Team Pilipinas as his big men.

With a lingering ankle injury that kept Greg Slaughter out of the team for the Thursday night game, Standhardinger, the designated naturalized player for the game, is expected to be the Nationals’ main man inside the paint.

Completing the lineup are combo guards Alex Cabagnot, Paul Lee, and Scottie Thompson; and wingers Marcio Lassiter, Allein Maliksi, and Gabe Norwood. (Ivan Stewart Saldajeno/PNA)
