DOLE allocates P44-M for ‘Ompong’-affected workers in Region 2

MANILA — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has allocated over PHP44 million to provide emergency employment to workers affected by Typhoon Ompong in four provinces and one city in Region 2 (Cagayan Valley).

In a report, Regional Director Sarah Mirasol said the emergency employment will be provided to 12,766 workers under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced workers (TUPAD).

A total of PHP44,042,700 will be allocated for the provision of salaries and benefits to displaced workers in the region.

The affected workers are from the provinces of Batanes (1,160), Isabela (5,798), Cagayan (4,348), Nueva Vizcaya (300), Quirino (580) and Tuguegarao City (580).

“Victims of the onslaught of typhoon will be provided emergency employment through the TUPAD program,” she said in her report to Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III dated September 17.

The DOLE-Region 2 official said the worker-beneficiaries will be employed for 10 days.

They will be paid PHP340 per day or the prevailing minimum wage rate in the region.

“It is expected that the 10-day works will end on Sept. 28, 2018,” she added. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
