MANILA, Aug. 2 — Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III on Wednesday said the Department of Finance (DOF) will conduct its own investigation regarding the PHP6.4-billion worth of shabu that failed the Bureau of Customs’ (BOC) scrutiny last May.
The 604 kilos of illegal drugs from China, which entered the country through the Port of Manila, were later recovered after a raid at a Valenzuela warehouse.
Lawmakers started their investigations on the issue and Dominguez do not question this saying: “that is their right to make.”
The Finance chief declined to give his thoughts on the alleged drugs smuggling and said he will just wait for the outcome of the investigation of the House of Representatives on BOC chief Nicanor Faeldon and on the alleged smuggling.
“We will wait for the results of the investigation of the legislature. We must respect them,” he said but noted that a similar investigation will be done by the DOF after lawmakers are done with the process.
“It is better to do this in sequence, so we are going to start it,” he said.
BOC is an attached agency of the DOF.
Dominguez also pointed out “nobody is safe” on this issue even.
“Nobody is safe. Even me,” he added. (Joann S. Villanueva/PNA)
