TALAVERA, Nueva Ecija — Electric cooperatives in Central Luzon on Thursday sent more than 100 expert linemen and work forces to Typhoon Ompong-battered Cagayan to hasten the restoration of electricity in the province.

Reynaldo Villanueva, president of the Central Luzon Electric Cooperatives Association (CLECA), said the contingents were assigned in various places within the service areas of Cagayan Electric Cooperatives 1 and 2.

The subsistence and other incidental expenses of the teams that brought with them at least 20 types of trucks and equipment, were shouldered by their respective cooperatives while restoration materials were provided by the host firms.

Based on the briefing, at least 1,400 electric poles were downed by “Ompong”, 900 of them within Cagayan 2 and 500 within Cagayan 1, according to Villanueva.

The contingents are scheduled to work there for 30 days but Villanueva said they will stay in their respective assignments until restoration work is finished.

“That is our commitment to NEA (National Electrification Administration),” he said. (Marilyn Galang/PNA)
