Power restoration due to ‘Ompong’ at 76%: DOE

MANILA — The power restoration in areas affected by Typhoon Ompong (Mangkhut) is at 76.16%, Felix William Fuentebella, spokesperson of the Department of Energy (DOE), has said.

As of Friday afternoon, the agency was still collecting data to update the figures, Fuentebella told the Philippine News Agency (PNA).

As of Thursday, the DOE reported that re-energization in affected areas was already at 74.8%.

Based on DOE’s records, there were 22 electric cooperatives affected and rehabilitation is still ongoing in 14 provinces, he added.

There were more than two million households affected or suffered power outages due to “Ompong’s” strong winds and rains.

The typhoon made landfall in Cagayan in the morning of September 15, and left the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the evening on the same day.

Fuentebella earlier told the PNA that access was the main problem in power restoration, as the affected areas were under different situations and varying terrain. “Some areas are flat land, while the others are in the mountains, he added.

The DOE also reported that all oil depots in Luzon were operational.

Twenty-one liquid fuel retail outlets were damaged: four in Ilocos, 13 in Cagayan Valley, and two each in Central Luzon and Cordillera Administrative Region.

The agency also reiterated the prize freeze on LPG and kerosene in areas under state of calamity: La Union, Isabela, Ifugao, Abra, Benguet, Kalinga, Tuguegarao City, Ilocos Norte, Pangasinan, Quirino and Ilocos Sur. (Ma. Cristina Arayata/PNA)
