NoCot female inmates empowered with livelihood training

KIDAPAWAN CITY — Female inmates in a detention facility in North Cotabato have been empowered with training-seminars aimed at making them productive citizens.

Female inmates of the North Cotabato District Jail (NCDJ) have undergone training in food processing, such as how to make ginger turmeric tea, and carrot and camote chips.

The livelihood training forms part of the provincial government’s effort to help the inmates prepare to restart their normal lives upon returning to mainstream society.

NCDJ officer-in-charge, Jail Warden Chief Insp. Marlon Robles, speaking over a local radio station on Saturday, lauded the provincial government for pushing a program “that gives equal opportunities to all, whether inmate or otherwise.”

“The program is working as women detainees are now busy making (ginger) tea and (carrot and camote) chips,” Robles said.

He said the NCDJ also recognizes other interventions extended by the provincial government to the facility, such as periodic medical and dental missions. (Edwin Fernandez/PNA)
