MRT-3 ops delayed due to accident on maintenance vehicles

MANILA — An accident involving maintenance vehicles of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) has caused delays on its operation Wednesday morning.

The MRT-3 management said two unimogs or maintenance service vehicles accidentally collided between Buendia and Guadalupe stations while doing maintenance works on its electrical system and tracks.

“Due to the accident, the insertion of trains which usually begins at 4:30 am only started at 5:30 am,” the management said in its advisory.

The collision of the two unimogs has caused injuries to six MRT personnel.

The MRT started its operations with eight trains inserted to the railway line as of 6 a.m.

“MRT-3 started passenger operations with the first train being only in Cubao,” according to the MRT-3. “Additional trains are being inserted and are loading passengers as of this time,” it added.

There are now 14 trains running as of this writing.

The Department of Transportation has deployed additional buses to assist affected passengers.

The MRT-3 usually operates from 5:30 a.m. until 11 p.m. during weekdays. (Aerol John Pateña/PNA)
