Comelec asks police assistance on last day of voters’ registration

CEBU CITY — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has requested the Philippine National Police to deploy several personnel to registration areas on the last day of the voters’ registration on Sept. 29.

Cebu provincial election supervisor Marco Lionel Castellano said Friday Comelec-Central Visayas has asked for police assistance in anticipation of the large number of last-minute registrants not just in the Comelec offices but also in off-site registration areas.

Castellano said this is to ensure that no untoward incident would happen as many are expected to register on Saturday since there will be no more extension for the registration of voters for the May 2019 elections.

After the registration, Castellano said the list of registrants will be submitted to the Election Registration Board (ERB) for verification and sealing of the voters’ list.

The ERB is tasked to review, approve or disapprove the applications which will take three weeks.

Comelec will prepare the project of precincts after the board meets on Oct. 25. (Luel Galarpe/PNA)
