Hundreds avail of ‘Clean Rider’ stickers in Pangasinan town

MALASIQUI, Pangasinan — More than a hundred motorcycle riders have registered for the ‘Oplan Clean Rider’ in this town since its launching on Sept. 22.

Superintendent Franklin Ortiz, chief of the Malasiqui Police Station, in an interview Monday said 30 motorcycle riders already have stickers on their motorcycles and licenses.

“There are hundred more who have filed out their applications, we are just validating and those which have been validated will soon have the ‘Clean Rider’ stickers from the Police Regional Office,” he said.

Ortiz noted the number of applicants is a “good sign” that motorcycle riders in the town are legitimate riders.

“Meaning, they are registered drivers and their motorcycles have legal documents,” he said.

Ortiz said they expect more riders will apply for the sticker.

Prior to the regionwide launching of ‘Oplan Clean Rider’, motorcycle riders in this town expressed support to the Philippine National Police’s (PNP) project, which is a brainchild of PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde.

“Maganda para maiwasan ang kriminalidad. Isa pa para legal ka, maseguro na ikaw talaga may ari kaya’t maganda ang programang ito ng pulisya. Suportado namin ito. (This is good to fight criminalities. One more thing is that, it will ensure that you are the legal owner of the motorcycle so this is a good project of the PNP. We support it),” said Johhny Suarez, president of the Grace Guardian Malasiqui chapter, in previous interview.

Erickson Centeno, member of the United Kabalikat Civic Communication and councilman of Barangay Apaya here, said the “Clean Rider” program of the PNP can help deter crimes.

Since motorcycle riding is being used by criminals in this program, legal owners can be easily identified in checkpoints through the ‘Clean Rider’ sticker, he said. (Hilda Austria/PNA)
