Bertiz’s fate up to ACTS-OFW: Comelec

MANILA — It is up for the ACTS-OFW Party-list to decide on whether Aniceto John Bertiz will keep his post as their representative, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said Tuesday.

“Under the party-list system, it is the party-list organization that has a say on which nominee will be occupying their slot. So that is already up to them,” Comelec spokesperson James Jimenes said on his Twitter account, @jabjimenez.

The poll body official added that such matter should be tackled by the party-list organization.

“In most cases, it is an internal matter and is already out of Comelec’s jurisdiction,” Jimenez said.

The poll body made the statement amid calls for the removal of Bertiz as the ACTS-OFW party-list representative and as a member of the House of Representatives.

In a video that went viral on social media, Bertiz was caught making a scene and confronting the airport security officer, who called his attention after he refused to remove his shoes during inspection at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal 2 over the weekend. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
