Crime rate down in Pangasinan

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) has recorded 483 crimes from January to September this year, which is 33 percent lower than the 720 crimes reported in the same period last year.

Most of the recorded crimes, or 468 cases, have been solved, leading to the arrest of 817 suspects, Chief Insp. Norman Florentino, PPPO community relations officer, told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Wednesday.

Florentino said most of the crimes recorded this year involved vehicular traffic accidents, followed by physical injuries.

“The drop in crime rate was due to police interventions, such as the simultaneous implementation of police operations against loose firearms and drugs, arrest of wanted persons, and implementation of municipal and local ordinances. Also, the conduct of regular patrol, checkpoint or Oplan Sita, and the implementation of search warrants,” he said.

Florentino said the Pangasinan police has conducted 9,520 operations relative to Oplan Sita and Oplan Katok this year, with 12 firearms confiscated and 13 persons arrested.

On the drive against illegal drugs, the PPPO had 626 operations with 664 persons arrested, and 208.192 grams of suspected “shabu” and 5,183.051 grams of marijuana confiscated from July 12 to October 2.

“The total market value of the drugs yielded in our operations amounts to PHP1.85 million,” Florentino said.

He said the Pangasinan police will continue to fight theft, robbery, and illegal drugs. (Hilda Austria/PNA)
