SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — The province of Antique was chosen as the ceremonial site in Western Visayas for the fourth quarter exercise of the 2018 National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) slated this November 5.

Antique Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Broderick Train, in an interview Friday, said they are preparing for the drill with an expected 3,000 participants.

“Governor Rhodora J. Cadiao will be issuing an executive order for all capitol employees to participate in the earthquake drill,” he said.

Majority of the participants will be from the provincial capitol, with around 1,000 employees, since the drill will be held in San Jose de Buenavista, the provincial capital.

He said other participants to the NSED will be from municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM) offices, especially in Anini-y town, where there will be a simulation exercise on tsunami, being a coastal town in southern Antique and a tourist destination with its Nogas Island.

“The drill will be observed by key people from the Regional DRRM council so that they could give recommendations on how we could further improve our capability response to major accidents and other things to be developed,” Train said.

Train added that on November 6, the province will also host the regional DRRM council meeting to discuss salient matters for the strengthening of disaster preparedness in Western Visayas. (Annabel Consuelo Petinglay/PNA)
