NBI nabs 4; rescues 14 from Cavite plastics recycling plant

MANILA–Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) have arrested five employees of a plastics recycling plant in Cavite and rescued 14 others, mostly minors, from the workplace during a recent operation.

Arrested were Justin Co, Marylou Olivay, Merry Car Bautista and Vivian Pulia during the raid on the plastics recycling plant in Barangay Bancal in Carmona, Cavite last October 2. They are employees of the Ever Fortune Recycling Corporation based in Carmona, Cavite.

The four, who were presented to the media Friday, will be facing violations of Republic Act 10364 or the the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012 and Republic Act 76 10 or the Anti-Child Abuse Act.

NBI Director Dante Gierran said several complaints had been filed against the corporation, which forces minor family members of their “stay-in” employees to work.

The minors reportedly worked for the firm to defray the rent of PHP300 per child every week for each family housed in their living quarters. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
