Police rules out foul play in death of Malaysian tourist

DUMAGUETE CITY – Investigators have ruled out foul play in the death of a Malaysian tourist, whose body was found in a resort in Dauin, Negros Oriental, a police report said on Friday.

Authorities identified the victim as Choy Jean Kam, 53, married, a Malaysian born in Singapore.

Initial police investigation showed the possible cause of the tourist’s death was heart attack.

The report said that Ngui Soke Foon, 44, female, also a tourist from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and friend of the deceased, told probers that she tried but failed to rouse the man from sleep around 7 a.m. Thursday.

An employee of the resort informed authorities about the incident, prompting police to immediately respond.

Upon arrival at the Pura Vida Resort, lawmen found the Malaysian man’s body still inside his rented room.

The female Malaysian tourist told investigators that her companion had angioplasty surgery two months ago.

A postmortem investigation conducted by Dr. Melpha Yee, municipal doctor of Dauin, showed there were no signs of foul play and the tourist died of heart attack, police said. (Mary Judaline Partlow/PNA)
