10 Chinese tourists, 2 crew saved from capsized motorboat in Cagayan

MANILA — A total 12 passengers and crew, including 10 Chinese tourists, were rescued from a capsized motorboat in Cagayan last Friday (Oct. 12), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported on Monday.

In a news release, the PCG said their personnel in Sta. Ana, Cagayan assisted the passengers and crew of motorbanca “Wilma” which capsized off the waters of Sitio Gotan.

The PCG said a certain Reyshelyn Angeles informed Coast guard personnel that the motorboat, operated by Juanito Hortaleza, 58, and Julito Pudot, 50, with 10 Chinese nationals, capsized in the said area.

Coast guard personnel proceeded to the site to conduct search and rescue operation.

When they arrived in the area, only the boat captain was found on the motorboat.

Coast guard personnel learned that the passengers were already rescued by a passing motorboat and safely brought to the shoreline of Anguib Beach.

The team proceeded to the Anguib Beach to check the condition of the passengers and immediately provided first aid to those who suffered minor abrasions.

Hortaleza said while on their way to Gotan Beach, big waves hit the port side of the motorboat lifting the outrigger that caused it to capsize. (PCG PR/PNA)
