JV Ejercito uses ‘Estrada’ surname in COC for May 2019 polls

MANILA — Re-electionist Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito is using the name “Estrada” in the May 2019 midterm polls.

Based on the Certificate of Candidacy (COC) he submitted before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday, Ejercito wrote as his nickname “JV Estrada” while the name that will appear on the official ballot will be “Ejercito Estrada JV”.

He noted that the information in his COC in the last polls and the 2019 elections are the same except for the political party where he is running under.

“We just copied what we wrote in my 2013 COC, which is ‘JV Estrada’. But the name to appear is ‘JV Ejercito Estrada’,” Ejercito told reporters.

For next year’s polls, Ejercito will be running under the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC). He was part of the United Nationalist Alliance in 2013.

He added that he chose to use the name Estrada in honor of his father, Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada.

“I chose to carry the name because I am still his son. I joined the NPC but I would always be a son of my father,” Ejercito added.

He, however, refused to answer questions regarding his half brother, former senator Jinggoy Estrada.

“I’m not here to run against anybody. I am here to offer myself again for re-election because of programs that I want to continue” he added.

Once elected for a second term, Ejercito said he will push through with more infrastructure projects as it will create jobs and opportunities.

“Now, I would like to run again because I want to push for other advocacies. ’Yung infrastructure, railway, airport because this will cause economic development and provide jobs and opportunities and this will also spread development in the rural areas,” he added. (Ferdinand Patinio/PNA)
