DOJ top fiscal in Manila enters Pasay mayoralty race

MANILA — Manila Chief Prosecutor Edward Togonon on Wednesday retired from his post to run for mayor in Pasay City.

Togonon filed his certificate of candidacy on Wednesday before the Pasay City Commission on Elections (Comelec).

He served 32 years as government prosecutor, 14 of which he rendered as Pasay City fiscal.

He became the chief prosecutor of Muntinlupa City for 13 years until he became Manila Chief Prosecutor for six years.

Togonon, a former reporter of the Philippine News Agency (PNA), was a member of the fact-finding committee created in 2011 to investigate allegations of poll fraud in the 2004 and 2007 elections.

Meanwhile, lawyer Allan Tebelin and former Pasay City Chief Prosecutor Elmer Mitra will run for vice mayor and congressman, respectively, in support of Togonon. (Benjamin Pulta/PNA)
