3 die, 8 hurt in Zambales vehicular mishap

IBA, Zambales — Three persons were killed and eight others were seriously injured after a UV Express collided with a jeepney along the national highway here Wednesday night.

Senior Insp. Noime Diaz, chief of the Iba municipal police, identified the fatalities as Emmanuel Villar, 43, of Sta. Cruz town, driver of the UV Express with conduction no. 036405; Joseph Elmark Macadaan Depamayo, 26, driver of the jeepney with plate no. CCN 777, and his passenger Aldrin Deguia, 32, both residents of Barangay San Agustin, this town. They were pronounced dead on arrival by a physician of the Pres. Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital here.

Based on initial investigation, the UV Express was traversing fast northward on its way to Sta. Cruz town at about 11:45 p.m. when its driver’s side collided with the jeepney, which was swerving towards the van’s lane.

The impact pinned Villar to his seat while Depamayo and Deguia were thrown out of the jeepney that resulted in their death, investigators said.

Those recuperating in the hospital are Mark Joseph Mayo, 21, of Sta. Cruz; Annabel Murados, 31, Sta. Cruz; Joymee Maronoc, 29, Masinloc town; Jeffrey Edejer, 42, Candelaria town; Christelle Quito, 24, Palauig town; Mark Ryan Anchocoso, 23, Iba; Elane Castro, 22, Masinloc; and Janine Gonzales, 25, also of Masinloc, all in Zambales and passengers of the UV Express. (Mahatma Datu/PNA)
