BATANGAS CITY – The Batangas provincial government has earmarked more than PHP260 million for school building projects in several towns across the province through the Provincial School Board (PSB), according to Batangas Public Information Office chief Jenelyn A. Aquilera on Saturday.

Aguilera said Engr. Evelyn Estigoy, PSB Secretariat Head has disclosed that the fund covers around 31 school buildings that are now under construction after the public bidding last August.

Estigoy said the school infrastructures cover some 18 new school buildings, 10 open classrooms and two day-care centers; and the renovation and improvement of the Batangas High School for Culture and Arts (BHSCA).

The Batangas High School for Culture and Arts (BHSCA) located in Barangay Bolbok, this city and the Batangas Province Science High School (BPSHS) in Calaca town are secondary schools offering special curriculums.

The BHSCA offers creative arts like theatrical arts, music and dance while the BPSHS specializes on the science curriculum.

“Kabilang din sa mga programang isinasakatuparan ng PSB ang pagsuporta sa operasyon at pagpapanatili ng mga pampublikong paaralan sa lalawigan (also included in the programs implemented by the PSB is the support for operations and maintenance of the provincial public schools),” added Estigoy.

In addition to the provincial government’s support for additional teachers and school workers, the PSB also facilitated the requests for additional school equipment and fixtures in public schools.

These include the distribution of around 231 laptop computers, 4,887 arm chairs, 200 teacher’s tables and chairs, and special equipment such as soil thermometers, wheelbarrows, electrode oven, weighing scales, comb tooth arrows and cake mixers.

Estigoy also lauded the support of educational stakeholders during the “Brigada Eskwela” in May this year that spruced up the public schools. (Saul Pa-a/PNA)
