Davao City alert status up for Undas 2018

DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) deployed close to a thousand cops starting Tuesday for the observance of the All Saint’s and All Souls Day or Undas 2018.

Chief Inspector Catherine dela Rey, DCPO spokesperson, said the number excludes members of the Task Force Davao, police auxiliary and force multipliers.

Each day from October 30 to November 4, Dela Rey said about 300 cops will be deployed to secure cemeteries, vital installations, residential areas, malls and places where the influx of people are expected.

For the rest of the region, Police Regional Office-11 (PRO-11) Director Marcelo Morales said maximum number of personnel will be deployed to provide security and man Police Assistance Centers in the cemeteries, terminals, malls, resorts, and major thoroughfares.

Morales reminded the public to be wary and alert so as not to give lawless elements the opportunity to carry out any criminal activity.

“I am asking for your full cooperation in the implementation of our safety measures,” he said.

Chief Inspector Jason Baria, PRO-11 spokesperson, said all police stations in the region are now on full alert status and prepared to address possible security and emergency situations in cemeteries.

Baria said all police station commanders have been advised to coordinate with their local government units and other law enforcement agencies in the implementation of their respective security measures.

Dela Rey reminded the public not to bring bladed weapons and firearms, liquor and other intoxicating drinks, playing cards and other items for gambling, radio and sound system for karaoke inside the cemetery.

When leaving their homes, the public is advised to ensure that their house is secured, no lighted candles left, appliances and other electronic including gas stoves are off. (Lilian C Mellejor/PNA)
