CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY–Nine centenarian-residents of this city received PHP200,000 each during Tuesday’s culmination of the National Elderly Month celebration.

Leading the recipients was Dipayongan Macasimbar, who at 105 is considered the oldest living person in the city.

Under Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarians Act of 2016, the nine recipients received PHP100,000 cash incentive with the city government adding another PHP100,000.

At least 2,000 officers and members of different chapters of senior citizen organizations from this city gathered in Limketkai Center, where they received recognition from the city and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Under the Centenarians Act, recipients receive letters of felicitation from the Office of the President, on top of the cash incentive.

If the centenarian is already deceased, his or her nearest surviving relatives will receive the cash grant and the posthumous plaque of recognition. (Ercel Maandig/PNA)
